Your Guide to Choosing the Perfect Stone

Learning about diamonds doesn’t have to be overwhelming. We’re here to make it simple, empowering you to make a confident and informed decision for your forever piece. Every diamond is unique — and understanding what makes each one special starts with the Four C’s: Cut, Carat, Color, and Clarity.

These four elements work together to determine the beauty, quality, and value of every diamond. Let’s break them down so you can find the one that shines brightest for you.

The Four C’s of Diamonds

(The universal standard for grading diamonds, established by the GIA — Gemological Institute of America.)

Cut

The cut is the most important factor in a diamond’s overall beauty. It determines how well the stone reflects light — creating the brilliance, fire, and sparkle we all love.
When a diamond is cut to ideal proportions, light enters the stone, bounces between its facets, and reflects back out through the top, creating a stunning display of sparkle.
If the cut is too shallow or too deep, light escapes through the bottom or sides, making the diamond appear dull or dark.
In short: the better the cut, the brighter the diamond.

Carat

The carat measures a diamond’s weight — not necessarily its size. Larger diamonds are rarer and often more valuable, but carat alone doesn’t define beauty.
Two diamonds of the same carat weight can look completely different if one is cut better than the other.
Sometimes stones are cut “bottom heavy” to increase carat weight, but that can make them appear smaller from the top view. Our goal is to help you find the perfect balance of size, sparkle, and proportion for your budget and style.

Color

Diamond color actually refers to the absence of color.
The less color a diamond has, the more brilliant and valuable it appears. The GIA grades color on a scale from D (colorless) to Z (light yellow).

  • D–F: Colorless — rare and highly sought after

  • G–I: Near Colorless — a beautiful, bright choice that offers incredible value

  • J and beyond: Faint to noticeable color — may show warmth, especially in larger stones
Even the slightest difference in color can affect a diamond’s price, but to the untrained eye, many near-colorless diamonds appear just as stunning as the truly colorless ones.

Clarity

Clarity measures how free a diamond is from natural inclusions (internal characteristics) and blemishes (surface marks).
Every diamond is formed deep within the earth, so tiny imperfections are completely natural — they’re what make each stone unique.
We focus on finding “eye-clean” diamonds — stones with inclusions that aren’t visible to the naked eye. These often fall within the VS1–SI1 clarity range and offer the best balance of beauty and value.
In many cases, inclusions can be strategically hidden by a prong or design detail, keeping your stone flawless to the eye.
