Identity. What a huge word in today's society! It's a huge topic discussed in our home too with our children! The identity we have been given in Jesus.
Thankfully -- we serve a God who is UNCHANGING and whose love for us NEVER changes – on our best or worst days -- our God remains a fiercely-loyal promise-keeper to us! He is faithful even when we are not! Which means, our identity is ALWAYS secure, certain and sure. Through thick and thin, highs and lows, wins or losses -- we must BELIEVE Him at His Word! I'm trying to teach my kiddos to get into a regular rhythm of coming to Him just as you are and learning to replace lies we might be believing with the Truth.
I discovered through my own struggles over the years that many of us don't know what God says about us or even who we really are under His umbrella of Truth! So basic and yet so profoundly foundational and life-changing!
One of my favorite Bible Verses states that we are “WORTH MORE THAN RUBIES!” (Proverbs 31:10) Knowing your worth is what allows us to shine, motivate, inspire, and change the world around us! Validation starts from within. Your worth is not something you earn! Your value is something that can never be stolen!
Perfection has already been given to you — the burden of perfection isn’t on you nor is the burden of performance! It’s on Him — and thankfully — His perfection and flawless performance has been accomplished and completed! Nothing left to prove, He proved it all on the cross — through His life, His death, His resurrection. And thus, providing us with our unshakable identities!
It’s pivotal to know that everything in our life is subject to change, except God Himself. We cannot put our hope (or find lasting contentment) in our achievements, status, people, money, sports, friends, jobs, etc. because they are not guaranteed tomorrow just as much as we aren’t. He is the only thing in our lives that is unchanging and the only place we will ever find comfort, lasting peace, joy in all seasons, and “life abundant” (John 10:10)! God is the “same yesterday, today and tomorrow” (Hebrews 13:8).
If you’ve lived long enough, you know that the world will eat you up and spit you out. The world can change on a dime. One day you are its hero, the next you’ve been cancelled and they’ve thrown you out like a piece of trash. We cannot count on the world to tell us who we are. We serve a God who is UNCHANGING and whose love for us never ever changes!
His steadfastness overrides, outweighs, supersedes and trumps any and all ircumstances you may be facing! Circumstances are ALWAYS changing, but the Lord God our ROCK is the ONLY thing that is unchanging, immovable, imperishable, unshakable, foundational; the only One who never fails us and is STEADFAST in delivering on all His promises!
“With whom there is no variation and does not change like shifting shadows.” (James 1:17)
Under the covering of the cross and with a humbled surrendered heart, we stand FULLY equipped, lacking nothing (Psalm 34:8-10)!
When our life is built upon the foundation of HIS Word — our lives will cultivate and produce magnificent fruit!
I grieve often as I think about the years I spent wasting my life believing lies about myself. Looking to futile-human-broken-sources (that only lead to depletion) to tell me I was worthy and worth it. The years I wasted chasing things significantly less than the true purpose and magnificent calling for which I was created. The years I atrophied as I believed we served a very small God and refused to recognize the magnitude of His sacrifice or even the significant weight in the value of my one-true-identity. The years I let shame steal away seasons and degrade every good part of me. Yes, believing lies can be even more lethal than any infectious disease!
“The law of the Lord is perfect, REFRESHING the soul. The statutes of the Lord are trustworthy, making WISE the simple. The precepts of the Lord are right, giving JOY to the heart. The commands of the Lord are RADIANT, giving LIGHT to the eyes. The fear of the Lord is pure, enduring forever. The decrees of the Lord are firm, and all of them are righteous. They are MORE PRECIOUS than GOLD, than much pure gold; they are SWEETER than honey from the honeycomb.” (Psalm 19:7-10)
GOLD is our theme here — can y’all tell? And friend, “you are worth more than gold” (1 Peter 1:18)!
Yes, it’s true, I’m a natural born cheerleader — through and through — literally, emotionally and spiritually! I want to use my gift of encouragement more intentionally and help cheer you on in your journey — wherever that may be!!
